Syria has recalled its ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, days after the US-sponsored Arab states pulled their envoys out of Damascus to protest what they described as "unacceptable violence against Syrian protesters.''

Syria's Foreign Ministry has decided to recall its ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain for consultations, an informed source told IRNA on condition of anonymity Wednesday.

The move comes as the Saudi regime on Sunday recalled its ambassador from Syria under the pretext of protesting "intolerable violence" in the country.

"The kingdom does not accept the situation in Syria, because the developments cannot be justified," King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia claimed in a Sunday statement.

He also urged "comprehensive and quick reforms" and "acts of wisdom" by the Syrian government "before it is too late."

King Abdullah's statement came despite the fact that Saudi Arabia has itself deployed armored military forces to troubled Bahrain to support a persistent brutal crackdown on protesters in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom

One day after Riyadh recalled the Saudi ambassador to Damascus, Kuwait followed the lead and also withdrew its envoy from Syria.

"We have decided to recall our ambassador from Syria for consultations," Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed al-Sabah told reporters on Monday after a parliamentary meeting.

Bahrain was the third country to recall its ambassador to Damascus.

On Monday, Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmad Al Khalifa said, "Bahrain is recalling its ambassador in Damascus for consultation and has called for a resort to reason."

Political analysts say that the decision by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait to recall their ambassadors could be interpreted as a prelude to foreign intervention in Syria.

The Syrian government blames armed gangs for the violence, saying that the unrest is being orchestrated from outside the country and the security forces have been given clear instructions not to harm civilians.

However, the opposition maintains that security forces are behind the violence.
