Financial Times紙は1月6日、米国の対イラン原油制裁強化を受け、同国からの原油輸入を減らす検討を始めていると伝えた。
JX日鉱日石エネルギーは、サウジその他と、イランに代わる原油購入の協議に入った。玄葉外相の中東歴訪では、サウジに対し追加購入を要請する道筋を付ける。

Newspaper "Financial Times" on Friday that Japan and South Korea searching for new suppliers of crude oil to reduce its dependence on Iran, in response to U.S. pressure to stop buying oil from Tehran.
The newspaper said that (GX Nippon Oil and Energy), the largest refineries in Japan is in talks with Saudi Arabia and other countries to find alternative supplies of Iranian oil, the source close to the Tokyo government that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Koichiro Gemba will use his visit to the Middle East to pave the way for access to additional quantities of oil from Saudi Arabia.
She added that South Korea is also considering easing its imports of Iranian crude oil, although it announced that it will not give in completely to U.S. pressure and tends to strengthen diplomatic efforts to avoid and reduce its imports of Iranian oil at high rates.
The newspaper pointed out that the major buyers of Iranian crude oil in South Korea, SK Group and Hyundai Oil Bank, said they did not receive any instructions to find alternative sources for Iranian crude oil, but they will respond if the government requested it.
The United States last month imposed sanctions against financial institutions that deal with the Central Bank of Iran, which ratified most of the oil sales, as part of its attempts to persuade Iran to abandon its nuclear program.
The "Financial Times" The Tim Geithner U.S. Treasury Secretary plans to visit China and Japan next week to discuss Iran.
The move by Seoul and Tokyo after the threat of Iran close the Strait of Hormuz, through which third of global trade of crude oil transported by sea.

玄葉光一郎外相は五日から八日間の日程でトルコ、サウジアラビア、カタール、アラブ首長国連邦（ＵＡＥ）の中東四カ国を歴訪する。トルコ以外は、最大の原油輸入元のサウジをはじめ日本の原油輸入上位三カ国で、輸入量の計約六割を占める。東京電力福島第一原発事故後、火力発電の依存が増す中、原油の安定供給確保に向けたエネルギー外交を展開する方針だ。
今回の中東訪問は、原油の主要輸入元の一つであるイランをめぐり、核開発を続けているとして欧米諸国が圧力を強めていることが背景にある。米国では昨年末、原油輸出減を狙って輸入国側の金融機関に独自の制裁を科す法が成立。日本への発動は当面猶予される見通しだが、影響が懸念されている。
玄葉氏は歴訪を通じて、経済連携による関係強化を図る考え。産油国が積極的に取り組む再生可能エネルギーや省エネ分野での技術協力を提案する。
外相の訪問が十一年ぶりとなるサウジではサウド外相と会談し、〇六年から続く投資協定交渉の加速を確認。制裁の動きに対抗してホルムズ海峡の封鎖をちらつかせているイランの核問題についても協議する。
