Boosting Maritime Linking between Syrian, Libyan Ports

Damascus, (SANA)- Syria and Libya discussed the mechanisms of activating the agreements signed between both sides in the field of maritime transport.
During a meeting on Thursday, Assistant Transport Minister for Maritime Transport Emad Abdel-Hai and Director of Tripoli Port Mohammad Ahmad Rashou discussed the commercial maritime navigation agreement signed in 2007 and the statute of the joint Syrian-Libyan maritime committee signed at its first meeting in 2009.
Boosting the issue of linking the Syrian and Libyan ports was also among the topics discussed, which is to be done through both sides providing facilitations to make this linking direct and regular to better encourage the transportation of passengers and the exchange of goods.
Both sides also stressed the importance of forming a work team to put into force the cooperation document signed between the Lattakia Port General Company and Benghazi Port and that inked between the General Company of Tartous Port and Tripoli Port.
The Libyan side expressed desire to exchange information and expertise with the Syrian side in the field of maritime rescue, as well as readiness to offer help in terms of training and qualification.
