Israel has signed a new treaty in Brussels to prevent double taxation between Israel and Belgium, in accordance with a Ministry of Finance policy to extend and update the range of tax treaties signed by Israel, especially with member countries of the OECD.

The treaty, which aims to improve the financing of Israeli companies, determines that they will pay a tax rate of only 5% in Israel on interest paid in Belgium.

Israeli residents will not have to pay tax in Belgium on accumulated capital gains (except concerning land), but only in Israel. The treaty also establishes a withholding tax rate of 5% on dividends and an exemption from dividend tax by the controlling shareholder of a company and by a pension fund.

The treaty makes it easier for those who immigrated to Israel from Belgium, determining a tax rate of only 10% for pensions received by Israeli residents who come from Belgium.

According to CPA Frieda Yisraeli, the State Revenue Commissioner in Israel's Ministry of Finance, "the new treaty improves the competitiveness of Israeli companies operating in Belgium and, at the same time, creates an attractive tax infrastructure which may encourage Belgian companies to operate in Israel."

Israel also has treaties with other countries, including England, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Vietnam and Taiwan.
