Lebanon's caretaker Telecoms Minister Charbel Nahas has confirmed news saying that the presence of an American warship has caused distortion in its internet system.
Nahas said on Saturday that the US ship had been the source of the problem, noting, "The problem, however, is due to a coordination error related to waves," Lebanese website Naharnet reported.
An-Nahar, a leading Lebanese daily had reported earlier in the day that the United States warships had interfered with Lebanon's internet and telecommunication services for the past few weeks with their moving about in the Mediterranean Sea.
The paper said the interference started with the January 12 collapse of former Premier Saad Hariri.
The disruptions have affected large organizations in a vast area from Lebanon's border with Syria to the southern city of Sidon, it said.
The telecommunication sector has also been a victim of Israel's espionage activities in the country, according to Nahas' comments during a November press conference.
